In the National Museum of the American Indian's magnificent George Gustav Heye collection there resides an old Cherokee bandolier bag. This early 19th century artifact is beaded with a floral design and under the pouch flap is the following embroidered inscription:

    To: General Jackson
    From: Sam Houston

Double Crossed was inspired by that bag, and is dedicated to all those Cherokees who died as a result of being double crossed by Andrew Jackson.
